Even in worst case scenario, when you find that a game burned to DVD/BD doesn't work you can still have it as a backup on the optical disc. At a later point you can always use the DVD/BD to copy the game back to your PS3 hdd and play it.
So it is like just another way to extend backup storage using discs. It is worth mentioning that you can backup couple of games on a single BD-R disc and later restore them to your PS3 hdd (not to be used with discBOOT app, but just as a backup). I just do that with Marvel Vs Capcom 3, restore it from dvd to int hdd and trying to launch as a backup I get the same error, 'the game data is corrupted. Another thing is that some games use UDF and not ISO9660 file system, so while burning with imgburn you'll get a warning: If such thing happens you'll have to cancel and make sure compilation is set to UDF.
